So many of us are leaving our books, magazines and newspapers behind and are opting for wireless readers, such as the Kindle but why is that?
More than a million books are published every year but the Google has the ability to digitize much more than that. Everything is becoming digitized. Newspaper circulation is down 7 million over the last 25 years. But in the last 5 years, unique readers of online newspapers are up 30 million. All these statistics lead to one conclusion: modern men prefer not to read on paper. We can’t blame them, digitization of reading materials promises to bring reading to another level and to a wider audience. It also is considered a “green” way to read.
Amazon.com is among the many innovators of digitizing books and bringing reading not on-paper but on-screen. Amazon.com started out as an online bookstore but it has grown to include most shopping and gift items like VHS, CDs, DVDs, computer software, video games, electronics, apparel, furniture and toys. They have also expanded rendering service not just in United States but shipping their items internationally.
Perhaps one of their most recent innovations that revolutionized reading is their very own wireless reading device called the Kindle. The Amazon Kindle is among the best hardware available that renders and display e-books and other digital media. What sets this apart from other mobile devices that also enable reading e-books is that it is specifically designed for reading unlike most mobile devices where that service is just a feature.
This electronic reader uses the E Ink technology that suits the needs of most readers. It’s a display screen technology that isn’t glossy and does not require backlights like CRT or LCD monitors. This means reading on-screen is just like reading on paper. You can read with the Kindle under direct sunlight or in your bedroom without straining your eyes.
Amazon was able to release 4 versions of their wireless reader to the market. With the latest version The DX Global having been released on January 19th, 2010. Every year the demand for this product has increased.
In fact, when Amazon offered their first Kindle in November 2007, they were sold out in five and a half hours. It wasn’t until April 2008 that they began selling them again. Their newest version which they call Amazon Kindle DX International has hit the world market by storm especially since they have decided to ship the product to 100 countries. 2009 ended with Amazon breaking the record by overtaking print sales with their e-book sales on Christmas day of 2009. That is a first in history and definitely won’t be the last milestone.
